Here I am! Send Me!

Isaiah 6:8 is a verse from the Old Testament of the Bible, and one of my favorites. The verse reads, "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'" This verse is significant because it describes a powerful moment in the life of the prophet Isaiah, in which he hears the voice of God and responds with a willingness to be used by God for His purposes.

In the context of the chapter, Isaiah is having a vision of God's glory and holiness in the temple. He is overwhelmed by the sight and acknowledges his own sinfulness and the sinfulness of the people of Israel. But God's response is not to condemn, but to call. The Lord asks Isaiah, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" Isaiah, recognizing the gravity of the call, responds immediately and without hesitation, "Here am I. Send me!"

This verse is often understood as an example of a call to ministry or service. Isaiah is called by God to be a prophet and to speak God's word to the people of Israel. It is also seen as an example of a willing heart, ready to serve God in whatever way He may call. Isaiah's response is one of complete surrender and obedience to God's will, and serves as an inspiration to believers everywhere to be willing to be used by God in whatever way He sees fit.
